Thoreau’s Desk unreleased session recording (take one), 20 April 2017

 

He didn’t have any ideas in his head. He paid attention to what he saw and heard. He let the things he was listening to go into his empty head. He had no ideas. He had nothing. He was free of experience. His experience freed him. He could see all around him. Each time he saw you he brought some radically new idea. He thought of all sound as music.

In Concert featured the percussion trio, Tigue, playing music by David Lang and Jason Treuting alongside a revised rendition of Thoreau’s Desk (requires some assembly). Changes to the performance of Thoreau’s Desk since its 2014 premiere at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum included an added vocal duo, circular saw, and AM/FM radio.
